Julia Myatt

Doogie Howser, M.D.

Who doesn’t love Doogie Howser? He’s smart, fun, and yes, a bit smug, but can you blame him? He graduated from medical school at 14! And he’s played by Neil Patrick Harris. In one episode of the show, Doogie treats a deaf patient named Julia Myatt and asks her out on a date. They go to an amusement park and ride the roller coaster, after which Doogie introduces Julia to the idea of a cochlear implant in order to help her hear. Her tests show minimal promise for auditory nerve stimulation, and she decides not to pursue the implant. Doogie is baffled as to why she won’t try and argues with her about it. Julia says to Vinnie, “His problem is that even though he can hear, he doesn’t listen.” Julia doesn’t view herself as different and “less” than other people who can hear, so she feels no need to make changes. Julia helps more people than just Doogie in the episode, but rather than give everything away, watch the whole episode for free on Hulu here!
