Earlier this month, President Bush joined the Starkey Hearing Foundation on a mission trip to Tanzania. In preparation of this two-week mission, Starkey set a goal to fit 9,400 hearing aids. Bush personally helped the Starkey team give 222 locals the gift of hearing during his stay. Bush has been a known supporter of the Starkey Hearing Foundation in the past but this was his first opportunity to show his support and help make a difference.
Bush’s daughter, Barbara, has also joined Starkey on mission trips in the past and is a strong supporter of the Foundation. Starkey intends to honor Barbara for her philanthropy on July 28th at their annual So the World May Hear awards gala in St. Paul, MN. This event is the organization’s largest fundraiser, earning approximately $7.6 million last year to help finance their global efforts.
The Starkey Hearing Foundation fits over 100,000 hearing aids annually and has pledged to reach one million by the end of the decade.
