Omnidirectional and directional microphones in hearing aids differ in that an omnidirectional microphone takes sound from all directions and amplifies it. A directional microphone takes more sound from the main source (usually in front of the wearer) and amplifies it. Because speech comes from multiple directions, itís important that a wearer be able to distinguish the important sounds and cues during conversations, so many hearing aids today include both types of microphones. The microphones adapt to different listening environments to provide the best experience for the wearer.
